Guatemala Sunglasses Project
Rotarian acts of kindness make this world a better place, especially for the poorest of the poor. By collecting used or unused sunglasses Rotary Amigos de Milwaukee will prevent blindness among the poor for Guatemalan farmers.
Mequon Thiensville AM club travels to Guatemala annually for a medical mission. As part of the mission they distribute sunglasses to workers.A pair of sunglasses will prevent a Guatemalan farmer from contracting a blinding eye diseases from the intense wind, dust and sunlight. The leading cause of disability in Guatemala is blindness.
Rotary Amigos de Milwaukee is supporting this initiative this year. We are requesting that our members bring in gently used pairs of sunglasses to our weekly meetings starting on May 27th.
A basket for donation will be available throughout the year. The collection will be turned over to MT Sunrise in November to allow sufficient travel time.
