Rotary Club Amigos de Milwaukee Welcomed Speakers from the Shen Yun Performing Arts

On January 17th, Rotary Club Amigos de Milwaukee welcomed Kay and Kathy, who are Community Liaisons for the Shen Yun Performing Arts. They spoke to us about the concept of oneness in traditional China and how it plays a role in the culture and religion. This concept originated from the oneness between man and heaven and many of the arts are used to celebrate this connection. They also described the importance of the concept "Service Before Self" in China, a belief that Rotary shares very closely. Through listening to them, we learned so much about the beauty and antiquity of the Chinese culture.

We also learned a lot about the Shen Yun Performing Arts and how, though it, the performers not only tell the history of China but also give glory to heaven through dance. Unfortunately, with time, many of the ancient traditions have been set aside. The Shen Yun Performing Arts' goal is to rejuvenate these traditions for future generations to enjoy. It is the living window into Chinese civilization.

They offered to partner with the Amigos. This opportunity will allow Rotary members (and friends of) to purchase tickets to the Shen Yun performance March 3rd through March 5th and ask to have $5 donated to the Rotary Club Amigos de Milwaukee. Please follow this link for more information on how to donate!

Rotary thanks both Kay & Kathy for their time and insights into the Chinese culture. We also thank the Milwaukee Athletic Club for making this event happen!
